You’ll never be more than a mile to the school gate at Houlton, whether your little one is four or fourteen. The specially designed civic space around our schools means that even the school gate has been crafted with you in mind. There’s an array of walkways and cycleways at Houlton, all of which make getting to school on foot or bicycle very easy.

ADMISSIONS:

Houlton School is a ‘Free School’, which means that they are an independent academy, not controlled by the Local Authority. They belong to the Transforming Lives Educational Trust (TLET) and their funding comes directly from central government. Therefore, whilst pupils enjoy enhanced, state-of-the-art facilities, there are no fees to pay for parents/carers to access provision. Their admissions criteria, including what happens when they are oversubscribed, are contained within their Admissions Policy for the relevant year of entry.

OFSTED:

Houlton School have not yet had their official Ofsted rating, however were visited by Ofsted just before they opened for a 'Free School Pre-Registration Visit'. Feedback from this visit stated:

"Leaders are highly effective in running successful schools and are suitably ambitious for this new school; they are committed to providing a world-class education and transforming the lives of all stakeholders. Pupils flourish and are well prepared for life beyond school."

New free schools are not usually formally inspected under Section 5 until they have been open for three years. Therefore, we anticipate our first formal inspection taking place in the academic year 2023-24.
