Resident Notice: Temporary Footpath and Green Space Closure
Posted 31 Mar 2026, 5:24 p.m.
We would like to inform residents that essential high‑voltage (HV) infrastructure works will be taking place in the green space to the west of the Redrow development at Houlton. To ensure the safety of the public while these works are carried out, the gravel footpath and adjoining green space will be temporarily closed from 7 April 2026 to 1 May 2026.
These works will be undertaken by Power On and their civil contractor Lydon Contracting Ltd.
The works are required due to the introduction of the Future Homes Standard and recent updates to Part L of the Building Regulations, which mandate low carbon, all-electric heating systems in new homes instead of the traditional dual gas and electric supply. To support this increased electrical demand, a new 33kV high voltage cable is being installed from the primary substation near Elliot’s Field in Rugby.
This cable will be routed through Houlton, using construction and back of house areas wherever possible to minimise disruption, before continuing beneath the A5 and across to the DIRFT/Prologis development, who will also benefit from the additional power capacity.
Please see the graphic below which demonstrates the exact closure points along the footpath to help residents plan alternative walking routes during this period.
These works are vital to support ongoing infrastructure delivery at Houlton and to maintain a safe environment for residents and contractors.
We understand these temporary works may cause some inconvenience, thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
